Ed Sheeran wasn’t as thrilled as he looked at VMA

Ed Sheeran has won Grammy, VMA, Billboard Music Awards, BRIT Awards and more, so if you think the singer was thrilled to show up at the MTV Video Music Awards again on Sunday, maybe not. The singer said in an interview that British awards events aren’t too bad, because “everyone gets drunk and no one really cares who wins or loses, it’s a good night.” Americans are apparently a little more competitive and naughty. “The room is filled with resentment and hatred for everyone else, and it’s a very uncomfortable atmosphere,” he said of the awards ceremony. “Other people want to fail.”

The Guardian reports that “a lot of people” are not so much musicians in Sheeran’s words. “All the artists are sweet people,” he added, “but they are surrounded by churches that want to win them too, so one artist is surrounded by 10 people and another artist is surrounded by 10 people and everyone has a kind of side eye to each other.” Says he shared his feelings with other artists and they really expressed frustration and then got frustrated. A quote from the quote: “Being there is a really, really scary atmosphere. I always feel sad and I don’t like it.” (Read more Ed Sheeran stories.)
