Why has The King of AEO launched Maptimal?
James Dooley says local customers now choose a business through Google Maps and AI assistants, and most businesses are not ready
LEIGH, GREATER MANCHESTER, ENGLAND, October 27, 2026 – James Dooley, the search marketer known as the King of AEO, launched Maptimal (maptimal.com) because the way customers find local businesses has changed. Instead of scrolling a page of links, more people now ask ChatGPT, Gemini or Google AI Overviews to recommend someone, or go straight to Google Maps.
The business those tools name is the one most likely to win the call. Maptimal, which Dooley co-founded with Paul Truscott, the King of Google Maps, and Peter Victor Jones, the King of Local Lead Generation, exists to help local businesses be that name.
Dooley sees the Map listing and the AI answer as one problem. Reviews, photos, opening hours and service areas shape what customers see on the map. The same details shape what AI tools say when asked for a recommendation.
Getting found comes down to clear, consistent information: who you are, what you do and why you’re good. Maptimal helps businesses get all three right.”
Dooley brings experience from nearly two decades of lead generation. He founded FatRank in 2007 and has built and ranked more than 1,000 websites, generating over 2 million customer enquiries. His co-founders add specialist depth: Truscott in semantic SEO and entity optimisation, and Jones in lead generation and getting businesses named by AI tools.
Maptimal starts with a $17 audit covering six areas, from business categories and service areas to reviews and directory consistency. Businesses can then fix the issues themselves or use the done-for-you service at $247 a month.
