Superman Prequel Novel’s Release Date is Set in June Before the DCU Movie

Superman: Welcome to Metropolis is a prequel novel to the impending DCU film, and DC has announced its publication date. The novella, which is set prior to James Gunn’s Superman reboot, examines Clark Kent’s arrival in Metropolis and establishes important plot points for the 2025 movie. The book will be published before the film’s theatrical release.

Superman: Welcome to Metropolis, DC’s prequel novel to the 2025 Superman film, will be published on June 3, 2025 (via Penguin Random House).

The junior novel, which is 144 pages long and takes place before the events of James Gunn’s film, will be published by Penguin Random House. The book, which costs $7.99 and can be pre-ordered on Amazon, is geared toward readers between the ages of 6 and 9.

Cast and Plot

Rachel Brosnahan plays Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult plays Lex Luthor, and David Corenswet plays Superman in the movie. Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, Nathan Fillion, Isabela Merced, and a number of other actors make up the supporting cast.

Synopsis:

the novel follows Clark Kent as he adjusts to life in Metropolis, starts work at the Daily Planet, and learns to manage his double life as Superman. The story centers around a dangerous mystery linked to Lex Luthor, played in the film by Nicholas Hoult. The book includes “an eight-page full-color insert” with profiles of the film’s main characters.

The forthcoming Superman film will not be an origin narrative, DC Studios revealed. Introducing aspects of Clark Kent’s early years in the city, Welcome to Metropolis will act as a narrative link. After Creature Commandos, this is the first feature film in the new DCU slate and the first Superman solo movie to be released in theaters since 2013’s Man of Steel.

Warner Bros. will release Superman in theaters on July 11, 2025.
