Liverpool easily won their second Premier League title, Mohamed Salah, an Egyptian, had an outstanding individual season and was named the Premier League Player of the Season on Saturday. This is the 32-year-old Egyptian’s second time receiving the honor.
Salah defeated the battle from teammates Virgil van Dijk and Ryan Gravenberch, Morgan Gibbs-White and Declan Rice of Arsenal, Alexander Isak of Newcastle, Bryan Mbeumo of Brentford, and Chris Wood of Nottingham Forest. Salah led his team to the Premier League title this season.
Salah helped the Anfield team win the championship with four games remaining by scoring 28 goals and dishing out 18 assists.
Salah became just the sixth player to win the accolade twice, following in the footsteps of Thierry Henry, Cristiano Ronaldo, Nemanja Vidic, and Kevin De Bruyne, after earning it in 2017–18 as well.
For the first time since 2018–19, the award has not gone to a Manchester City player.
In addition to surpassing Sergio Aguero’s 184 goals this season, he signed a new two-year contract to remain at Anfield until 2027, making him the highest-scoring foreign player in Premier League history.
Salah received over 90% of the vote this month, earning him the Football Writers’ Association footballer of the year award for the third consecutive year.
