Niantic and Nintendo declares partnership on new augmented reality ‘Pikmin’ game

Almost five years after the launch of Pokémon Go, Niantic reported Monday that they are partnering with Nintendo to co-develop a new title dependent on the organization’s Pikmin franchise.

Niantic says the application is being developed in their Tokyo office and will launch in the not so distant future.

“The app will include gameplay activities to encourage walking and make walking more delightful,” an press release from Niantic reads. The company notably specifies that the title will utilize their augmented reality platform to incorporate this real world into the application’s experiences.

Pokémon Go has fallen out of headlines however has kept on deliver massive sums to the San Francisco gaming company, obscuring $1 billion in income in 2020. Lately, Nintendo has sought to build out their presence on mobile gaming platforms with various titles playing on a portion of their biggest franchises, yet none of them have arrived at Pokémon Go’s level of success.

Niantic has brought almost $500 million up in capital, most recently raising at a $4 billion valuation.
