LinkedIn Paying Up to Rs 14,000 an Hour to Help Train AI Models
The race to create smarter AI is no longer limited to large tech companies and powerful computers. It is now establishing a new type of employment market in which humans are compensated for teaching machines how to think more effectively. LinkedIn is currently preparing to enter this rapidly expanding market. According to Business Insider, the Microsoft-owned platform is currently developing a “AI labor marketplace,” a system in which people can earn money by helping in the improvement of AI technologies. While still in its early stages, the idea is that if you have talent in coding, finance, or even nursing, you might be compensated to train AI models to perform better in those areas.
What does an artificial intelligence trainer actually do?
AI training may appear technical, but at its core, it requires human judgment. Trainers interact with AI chatbots, reviewing their responses, rating their correctness, and even challenging them with difficult questions to test their limits. This feedback is then used to help the AI become smarter and more reliable.
This type of labor has increased rapidly as companies seek to improve their AI systems. In fact, LinkedIn reports that AI training jobs are among the fastest-growing jobs in the United States right now.
How much can you earn?
The pay range is what is attracting notice. According to LinkedIn ads, professionals can earn anywhere from $40 (about Rs 3,300) to $150 (approximately Rs 14,000) per hour, depending on their expertise.
For example, someone with extensive understanding of Excel and finance can make up to $100 per hour. Nurses are also receiving comparable pay rates. Senior software developers are the highest-paid, earning up to $150 per hour for training AI systems on complicated coding tasks.
There are also specialty professions available, like as language experts who specialize in Germanic and Nordic languages, and “red team” testers, who are hired to uncover flaws and weaknesses in AI systems and earn between $40 and $50 per hour.
LinkedIn versus AI startups
LinkedIn is joining a market that is already highly competitive. Several startups are developing platforms that connect AI companies and human educators.
One such business is Mercor, which has seen its worth skyrocket to $10 billion in just a year. Surge AI, a key participant known for its Data Annotation marketplace, is reportedly valued at $24 billion.
Even firms like Scale AI are actively involved in this ecosystem, collaborating with top AI laboratories to develop their models using human feedback.
While the rise is quick, it is not without risks. The AI training industry relies significantly on massive networks of freelance contributors, which raises concerns about data privacy and security. Scale AI, for example, came under fire for exposing confidential contractor and client data across many papers. Mercor has also apparently had a data breach that compromised user information and resulted in legal action.
