China Open: Two-time Olympian PV Sindhu defeated sixth seed Tomoka Miyazaki with a strong display of discipline and fortitude. In the China Open Super 1000 event on Wednesday, they advanced to the round of 16 with scores of 21-15, 8-21, and 21-17.
Sindhu, who is now rated No. 15 in the world, got off to a strong start, easily winning the first game after scoring seven points in a row to take a 13-5 lead.
Miyazaki fought back brilliantly in the second game, gaining nine points on fish to take a 12-eight lead before converting parity.
In the final, Sindhu regained control and turned the tide of the match in her favor. She maintained a consistent advantage to end the match and win the match after a fierce battle in 62 minutes.
After losing to the Japanese teenager at the Swiss Open the previous year, the former world champion was playing the 18-year-old world No. 6 Miyazaki for the second time.
