Zendaya’s “Challengers” Opens First in the UK and Ireland

Comscore data indicates that Warner Bros.’ “Challengers,” starring Zendaya, opened with a total of £1.6 million ($2 million) at the U.K. and Ireland box office.

“Back to Black” from Studiocanal fell to second place with £1.4 million on its third weekend, finishing with a total of £8.9 million. In its fifth weekend, Universal’s “Kung Fu Panda 4” came in third place with £948,033 in total revenue, making it worth £19.7 million.

“Civil War” from Entertainment Film Distributors came in fourth place with £755,426 overall. Warner Bros.’ “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” rounded out the top five with £597,587 in its fifth weekend, earning a total of £13.7 million.

The other new release in the top 10 was “Spy x Family Code: White” from Anime Ltd., which came in at number eight with £280,729 at launch.

Ahead of the extended bank holiday weekend in the territory on May 2, there are two releases scheduled. With Emily Blunt, Ryan Gosling, Hannah Waddingham, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson in the lead roles, Universal is releasing “The Fall Guy” in more than 300 theaters. Additionally, “Macbeth,” which starred Ralph Fiennes and Indira Varma and was recorded live in London, is being released by Trafalgar Releasing.

On Friday, there are multiple releases. Lionsgate is releasing Rose Glass’s Berlinale film “Love Lies Bleeding,” starring Kristen Stewart, in which gym manager Lou falls in love with bodybuilder Jackie when she is traveling to a competition in Las Vegas.

“The Idea of You,” starring Anne Hathaway as the 40-year-old single mother Solène, and Nicholas Galitzine as the 24-year-old lead singer of August Moon, the world’s sexiest boy band, will be released by MetFilm Distribution. “Nezouh,” a film set against the backdrop of the Syrian war and winner of two Venice prizes in 2022, will premiere at Modern Films.

In the children’s area, Kaleidoscope Entertainment is launching “Lassie: A New Adventure,” in which the title dog and his companion Flo become swept up in a brand-new mystery: every single pedigree dog in the picture-perfect South Tyrol community is going missing. Additionally, Miracle/Dazzler is launching the animated feature “Super Wings the Movie: Maximum Speed,” in which Sky, the world’s fastest airplane, is tasked with protecting Earth.

When a group of friends break the cardinal law of tarot readings—never use someone else’s deck—in Sony’s horror film “Tarot,” they release evil that has been sealed inside the cursed cards. “Blackbird Blackbird Blackberry,” a 48-year-old lady from a small Georgian village who values her independence, makes her unexpectedly fall in love with a man and must decide whether to pursue a relationship or maintain her independence. New Wave is the opening Cannes debut and Sarajevo winning film.

Disney is celebrating its 25th anniversary by re-releasing “Star Wars: Episode I – Phantom Menace.”
