Sony Announces New Dates for ‘Treasure Island,’ ‘24 Jump Street’ and ‘Helldivers’ Release

Sony Pictures has announced a series of release-date changes and additions for its upcoming film slate, including Ridley Scott’s “Treasure Island” and the long-awaited “24 Jump Street.”

The biggest addition is “Treasure Island,” Scott’s adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic novel, which is scheduled to hit theaters on November 11, 2027. The film stars Hugh Jackman as the notorious pirate Long John Silver, alongside Hugh Grant and Owen Cooper.

Also joining Sony’s 2027 theatrical calendar is “24 Jump Street,” which reunites Channing Tatum, Jonah Hill and Ice Cube. Directed by Rodney Rothman, the filmmaker behind “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse,” the film is set for release on December 10, 2027.

Sony has also dated “The Surgeon,” an action thriller starring Michelle Yeoh, for April 2, 2027. The film was recently acquired by Sony following its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. Directed by Roshan Sethi, “The Surgeon” follows an expert surgeon who is abducted and forced to operate on a mysterious patient. She eventually uses her decades of surgical experience to fight back against her captors and escape.

Another new addition is “Narcs,” a drama starring Mason Thames and Ella Bright, which will open on August 20, 2027. The film is directed by John Phillips and produced by Gene Stupnitsky through his Big Name Entertainment banner, with Robert Lamonaca also producing. John Phillips and Joseph Micucci are executive producers.

Meanwhile, Sony has moved several previously dated projects. Takashi Yamazaki’s “Grandgear,” produced by Bad Robot, has shifted from February 18, 2028, to January 14, 2028, over the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend.

The PlayStation Productions adaptation “Helldivers,” starring Alan Ritchson and directed by Justin Lin, has also been pushed back. Originally scheduled for November 10, 2027, the film will now open on June 9, 2028. The move allows “Treasure Island” to enter production first and take the Veterans Day release window, while “Helldivers” moves into the summer theatrical season.

“Treasure Island” features a screenplay by Jack Thorne and follows a young boy who discovers a map leading to legendary buried treasure. His journey across the sea turns dangerous as he becomes locked in a battle of wits with the charismatic but treacherous Long John Silver. Scott and Michael Pruss are producing the film through Scott Free.

The film is currently scheduled to open ahead of Warner Bros.’ “Margie Claus” and Paramount’s “Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow.”

“24 Jump Street” was written by Rothman, Hill and Meghan Malloy. Neal H. Moritz, Phil Lord, Chris Miller, Tatum and Hill are producing the film. It currently stands alone on Sony’s December 10, 2027 release date.

“Grandgear” will face several other releases on January 14, 2028, including Paramount’s sequel to “Longlegs,” an untitled Universal film and Amazon MGM Studios’ “Alone at Dawn.”

“Helldivers,” meanwhile, will open alongside a Universal event film and UA/Amazon MGM Studios/Amblin’s internet horror movie “The Mandela Catalogue.”

Based on the popular PlayStation video game franchise, “Helldivers” follows an elite group of soldiers known as Helldivers as they battle alien creatures threatening the fictional planet of Super Earth. The original game was released in 2015, while “Helldivers 2” became a major commercial success after launching in 2024, selling more than 12 million units across PS5 and PC during its first four months.

The film is produced by Hutch Parker, PlayStation Productions’ Asad Qizilbash and Lin through his Perfect Storm Entertainment.
