Top 5 New Netflix Movies to Watch in December 2025
Some of Netflix’s popular releases have been postponed until the end of the year. With the holiday season in full swing, the platform is giving your watchlist one last makeover before the New Year.
Every mood will be catered to by Netflix’s releases this month, which range from the eagerly awaited third installment of a mystery movie series to calming holiday-themed movies. You should add these new Netflix films to your December watch list.
- Jay Kelly
Jay Kelly, a comedic drama directed by Noah Baumbach (Marriage Story), stars Laura Dern, Adam Sandler, and George Clooney. The well-known actor Kelly (Clooney) wants to get back in touch with his youngest daughter, Daisy, before she departs for college, but their estrangement has grown over time.
Kelly abruptly quits his new project and travels to Europe in the hopes of finding Daisy while he confronts with the death of a mentor he wronged and a bitter confrontation with an old friend that ends tragically. He attempts to mend his relationship with his daughter while addressing all he has been avoiding. Kelly’s manager, Ron (Sandler), must contend with a volatile Kelly while his personal life takes a turn for the worst.
- Troll 2
A sequel to the most popular non-English Netflix film ever will be released in December. Directed by Roar Uthaug (2018’s Tomb Raider), Troll 2 is a Norwegian monster action movie that carries on the adventure of Troll’s unusual band of misfits. This time, they have to band together to fight a new troll that is emerging from a mountain and wreaking havoc throughout Norway. However, there is a catch: the group, which now includes a new member, must become friends with and enlist the aid of another enormous troll. Norwegian folklore served as the inspiration for the film series.
With over 103 million views for the Netflix original film Troll, it will be interesting to see how the epic monster movie’s sequel performs come holiday season.
- My Secret Santa
This is the time to start creating your Netflix Christmas watchlist if you haven’t already. My Secret Santa is a holiday romcom about a single mom (She’s the Man’s Alexandra Breckenridge) who disguises herself as an old man to work as Santa Claus at a ski resort—she needs a job for the holidays, and it comes with a nice perk of discounts for her daughter’s snowboarding lessons. Trouble brews when the resort’s manager begins suspecting her, and she falls in love with the resort owner’s son (The Blacklist’s Ryan Eggold).
In a similar spirit, Jingle Bell Heist is a Netflix movie you should check out if you’re looking for fresh Christmas romantic comedies. This November release chronicles the romance between two strangers who get together to loot a London department store.
- Goodbye June
Goodbye June, a Netflix Christmas drama starring and directed by Kate Winslet, will help you get in the spirit of the season. Family-friendly, this heartwarming holiday movie follows the lives of four siblings as their mother’s condition deteriorates as Christmas approaches. Goodbye June, which centers on the spirit of family and the holiday season, will be a refreshing (and emotional) film if you want to cut through the clutter of generic Christmas movies that follow the same storyline.
Winslet, Toni Collette, Helen Mirren, Johnny Flynn, Andrea Riseborough, and Timothy Spall are among the ensemble cast members of Goodbye June.
- Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery
Since its teaser debuted in May, I have been eager to witness one of the most anticipated releases of the year. Wake Up Dead Man is a stand-alone follow-up to Glass Onion and the third feature in Rian Johnson’s Knives Out film series. Prior to its Netflix release this month, it debuted in theaters in November.
Daniel Craig returns to his role as Benoit Blanc, a private investigator who investigates the unexplained death of a priest who is stabbed during a Good Friday service inside a storage closet. Similar to its predecessors, Blanc will use his unorthodox methods to solve this murder mystery in Knives Out.
Josh O’Connor, Josh Brolin, Glenn Close, Mila Kunis, Kerry Washington, and Andrew Scott are among the ensemble cast members of Wake Up Dead Man.
This month, Netflix plans to release a number of holiday-themed films that will complement its current festive collection. However, by going to the “New and Popular” option in your Netflix app and browsing your favorite genres, you may still locate non-holiday movies.
