Tina Fey, Meredith Scardino’s Peacock comedy series ‘Girls5eva’ is coming in May

Tina Fey and Meredith Scardino’s comedy series Girls5eva was one of the more high-profile announcements of Peacock’s first wave (since it was co-made by Tina Fey and has a lovely famous cast), and now they at long last have our first look at the series.

Made and written by Scardino, Girls5eva will debut on the NBC streaming platform on Thursday, May 6.

Girls5eva, as you might be able to guess from that name, is about a ‘90s girl group that unexpectedly gets renewed relevance when a rapper samples their one hit, inspiring them to reunite and plan a comeback. The girls are played by Sara Bareilles, René Elise Goldsberry, Paula Pell, and Busy Philipps, making this Bareilles second enormous TV project over the most recent few years and second large TV project for a fledgling streaming service (she did the music for Apple TV+’s Little Voice and showed up in the arrangement as herself).

Peacock will drop each of the eight episodes of the comedy on the premiere date.

The streaming platform additionally revealed the trailer and art for the upcoming comedy. The trailer, which you can watch above, teases Girl5eva’s ascent to notoriety and their not exactly lovely endeavors to get back to their glory days. They find inspiration and confidence in one another to knock audiences off their feet, straightforwardly.

“Four grown ladies trying to be pop stars again – strap in,” Bell’s Gloria says in the trailer.

Girls5eva is executive by Scardino, Jeff Richmond, Tina Fey, Robert Carlock, David Miner and Eric Gurian. The comedy is produced by Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group.
