‘The White Lotus’ Has So Far Had A Fantastic Night

“The White Lotus” is proving to be the hothouse flower of the Emmys.

After almost two hours of the evening’s proceedings, the HBO limited series had already won prizes for writing, directing, supporting actor and actress, and all other categories in which it had been nominated.

The HBO series’ creator, Mike White, has a varied career in the entertainment industry. He wrote the 2003 film “School of Rock” and participated in the reality competition “Survivor.” He spoke about how much he loved writing in his victory speech.

“Don’t come for me–don’t vote me off the island, please,” he said.

So far the show has nine Emmys, including five from the Creative Arts Emmys held last week.

One of the highest totals for any show, the scathing social satire, a dramatic comedy set at the imagined White Lotus resort in Hawaii, entered the evening with 20 Emmy nods. Cast members of “White Lotus” received eight out of the fourteen nominations for supporting actor and actress in competitions for limited series.

For her role as a tragicomic singleton, Jennifer Coolidge won the prize for best supporting actress. Murray Bartlett also took home a prize for his portrayal of a frazzled hotel manager.
