OpenAI Reveals Deep Research for Multi-Step AI Analysis in ChatGPT

OpenAI unveiled Deep Research, a new ChatGPT AI agent that can autonomously carry out multi-step online research, on Sunday. It is powered by an o3 AI model and is now accessible to ChatGPT Pro members.

How does it work?

The new OpenAI o3 model, which the company claims is optimized for web browsing and data processing, powers OpenAI’s Deep Research agent. The new agent searches, interprets, and analyzes text, photos, and PDFs on the internet by leveraging the reasoning skills of this model.

Research can begin when users choose ‘deep research’ in ChatGPT’s message composer and type in their inquiry. In order to provide context for their inquiry, they can also attach files or spreadsheets. The stages and sources used are summarized in a sidebar that displays when the agent initiates the process. Depending on the sort of research, the full procedure may take anywhere from five to thirty minutes.

The finished product is displayed in the chat as a report. Images, data visualizations, and other analytical outputs will soon be included into these reports to provide more context and clarity.

Availability

Only ChatGPT Pro members can currently access it, but the business announced that Plus and Teams subscriptions would soon be able to do the same. Notably, the monthly cost of the Pro subscription is $200, or approximately Rs. 17,500.

Details of the OpenAI o3-mini model

OpenAI has launched a new small-scale model in its o3-series reasoning model in addition to the new AI agent. A version with rate constraints is being made accessible to ChatGPT’s free-tier users, and the business is integrating the most recent o3-mini reasoning model into ChatGPT and its API services. According to the company that, like its o1-mini model, the new o3-mini model solves math, science, and coding challenges effectively while being inexpensive and having a lower latency. Additionally, o3-mini works with ChatGPT’s Search feature to find up-to-date answers with links to relevant web sources.

For ChatGPT Plus, Team, and Pro members, the o3-mini model is currently accessible; enterprise access is anticipated shortly. Additionally, OpenAI is raising the daily message limit for Plus and Team users from 50 with o1-mini to 150 with o3-mini. By choosing ‘Reason’ in the message composer, users of ChatGPT’s free tier can access an optimized version of the o3-mini model.
