US Open 2025: Following a victory in the opening round of the current US Open 2025, Novak Djokovic delivered another masterclass and accomplished an amazing milestone.

At Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York, Djokovic made a spectacular start to his US Open campaign on Sunday, August 24, defeating American sensation Learner Tien in straight sets by a 6-1, 7-6(7-3), and 6-3 margin.

The Serbian wants to win a record 25th Grand Slam trophy and end a two-year wait for a major championship. On Wednesday, August 27, the Serbian will square off against Zachary Svajda, another member of his native nation; the time and venue have not yet been announced.

Novak Djokovic Reaches An All-Time High

The victory over Tien was Djokovic’s 75th consecutive major advance to the second round. During the Open Era, he became the first player, male or female, to win 75 consecutive opening round matches. A few years ago, Roger Federer’s record was beaten by the 24-time Grand Slam champion.

Interestingly, Djokovic hasn’t dropped a match in the opening round in 19 years; the last time he did so was as a youngster in 2006. Actually, he only lost in the first round of the Australian Open in 2005 and 2006.

Djokovic has never lost in the first round of a major, with the exception of the year’s first slam, which he has won a record ten times. He has a 20-0 first-round record at the French Open and Wimbledon, and he has won all 19 of his meetings at Flushing Meadows. His record at the Australian Open is 18-2.

The 38-year-old is participating in his second-most Slam-winning event, trailing only Federer and Feliciano Lopez (81). Djokovic has won the opening round of all four Slams this year for the 16th time in a row, which is the most for any player. The seasoned pro achieved the second-most Slams of his career, trailing only Federer and Feliciano Lopez (81).
