Nat Sciver-Brunt Named as New England Women’s Captain

Heather Knight resigned after nine years as captain, and England has picked her replacement. ECB announced Nat Sciver-Brunt as the new captain of the England women’s cricket team on Tuesday.

After nearly nine years in the position, Heather Knight resigned after England’s 2025 Women’s Ashes series. Sciver-Brunt will take over in all three formats under newly hired head coach Charlotte Edwards.

With 259 appearances in all formats over the last ten years, Sciver-Brunt has been a staple in the team since her debut in 2013 and has been an important batswoman and ball player.

Sciver-Brunt most recently became the first player to reach 500 runs in a single season when she finished the 2025 Women’s Premier League in India with 523 runs. In the WPL, she also became the first player to reach 1,000 runs.

For the third IT20 match against New Zealand in 2021, Sciver-Brunt led her nation as captain for the first time in international cricket. She also served as captain for the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

She has taken 181 international wickets and averages 46.47 in Tests, 45.91 in ODIs, and 28.45 in IT20s.

Before hosting India for five Twenty20 Internationals and three One-Day Internationals, England’s 2025 home summer campaign starts on May 21 with a series against the West Indies that includes three One-Day Internationals and three Twenty20 Internationals.
