Mercedes-Benz is Recalling 116,000 Cars due to a Fire Hazard. These are the Models that are Impacted

The 48-volt ground connection under the passenger seat may not be correctly fastened, which might lead to the ground connection overheating, prompting the recall of approximately 116,000 Mercedes-Benz vehicles.

Mercedes-Benz is recalling its cars, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), because “an overheated ground connection can increase the risk of a fire.”

Mercedes-Benz surmised that loosening of the 48-volt ground connection might have been caused by other technician procedures following an investigation into customer complaints regarding alerts connected to batteries. On March 15, the investigation came to an end.

The NHTSA has listed the following vehicles as being part of the recall:
  • 2019-2023 GLS450
  • 2020-2023 GLE580
  • 2020-2023 GLS580
  • 2020-2024 GLE450
  • 2021-2023 AMG GLS63
  • 2021-2023 MAYBACH GLS600
  • 2021-2024 AMG GLE53
  • 2021-2024 AMG GLE63 S
  • 2023-2024 GLE350

If your automobile is one of the recalled models, you can take it to the dealer, and they will check it over and, if needed, tighten the 48-volt ground connection. There will be no charge for this service. Letters of recall notification will be distributed on May 14.

Owners can reach the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or MBUSA customer service at 1-800-367-6372. Affected drivers can also get help by going to www.nhtsa.gov.
