Lake Worth Beach Welcomes Back 30th Street Painting Festival

For the thirty-first year, downtown Lake Worth Beach was transformed into a makeshift museum by hundreds of artists.

The festival showcased artists working with various media on the pavement of about twelve blocks throughout the city, including both more experienced and student artists.

The event runs on Sunday till 7 p.m.

Victor Jorges of WPTV met with Pittsburgh artist Erik Greenwalt, better known as “The Chalking Dad.”
He decided to paint a picture inspired by the well-liked children’s cartoon program “Bluey.”

He’s been participating in this festival since 2016.
“I’ve had the opportunity to travel all around the world doing festivals like this,” he said. “It’s important to be able to bring art to the people and a lot of folks never get the chance to get to an art museum.”

While some artists worked on their unique ideas using chalk on the ground, others choose to recreate well-known works of art, such as Sandro Botticelli’s “The Birth of Venus.”

Jorges also talked with Robyn Pizzichiello, who oversaw the festival’s planning this year. She claimed that the charm of each performer, both new and returning, and the city’s involvement in the show’s production are what make it so successful.

The event typically takes place near the end of February, though the date for 2019 has not yet been confirmed by the organizers.
