Ferrari 296 Speciale Unveiled: Track-Honed, Lighter, and Faster Special Edition

Ferrari 296 Speciale, a new special edition model has been unveiled. The goal of this mid-rear engine plug-in hybrid berlinetta is to provide unparalleled driving thrills. In comparison to the 296 GTB, the car’s aerodynamic improvements increase downforce by 20%, and lightweighting and a special suspension system improve driver engagement.

The twin-turbo 3.0-liter engine of the 296 Speciale is still linked to an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, but in a new “Qualify” driving mode, the electric motor in between has been upgraded to produce 132kW/315Nm.

The 296 Speciale can now reach a high speed of around 330 km/h and go from zero to 100 km/h in 2.8 seconds. The 296 Speciale has a three-liter, six-cylinder combustion engine that produces 700 horsepower. Another 180 horsepower comes from its electric component.

Because of the 296 Speciale’s amazing usage of titanium for engine parts and carbon fiber for body shell portions, up to 60 kg of weight has also been removed. The new titanium internals have made the engine itself 9 kg lighter than it was previously.

In addition to being lighter, faster, and more potent than the 296 GTB it is built on, the resultant vehicle also becomes Ferrari’s most potent rear-wheel-drive production vehicle ever.

Advanced Technology

By enabling full-electric driving mode with a range of up to 25 kilometers, the electric motor enhances the internal combustion engine’s torque and power. In additional boost mode, the MGU-K electric motor between the V6 and gearbox may deliver up to 180 cv.

This sophisticated technology effectively controls energy flow through a variety of settings chosen via the steering wheel’s eManettino and has a clutch for decoupling components during various driving modes.

Interior and Features

The Ferrari 296 Speciale’s interior is similar to those of its special edition predecessors. This entails carbon-fiber door panels made of a single block, carbon-fiber bucket seats with Alcantara padding, and carbon-fiber shrouding for the central tunnel.

To commemorate the release of the 296 Speciale, Verde Nurburgring, a new color was created. Two longitudinal stripes running the length of the vehicle and the opportunity to have racing numbers (ranging from 00 to 99) painted on the doors are characteristics of the 296 Speciale livery.

Price:

296 Speciale starts at €407,000, or about $AU723,400, which puts it much beyond the 296 GTB source car’s $604,000 pre-on-road price.
