Casio Presents G-Shock Urban Utility Watches Using Biomass Plastic and Colors Derived from Food Waste

The GD-010CE-5JF and GA-010CE-2AJF are two new G-Shock models from Casio Japan that are built with sustainability and durability in mind. The GD-010CE and GA-010CE watches will be priced at ¥17,050 ($110) and ¥20,350 ($132), respectively, when they go on sale in January 2025.

The primary resin components, such as the bezel and case, are composed of biomass plastic, which lessens their negative effects on the environment. CORDURA re/cor, a robust material manufactured from recycled Cordura and PET yarn, is used to make the bands. FOOD TEXTILE’s method, which converts food waste into natural colors, is used to dye the bands. The GD-010CE’s band is dyed with echinacea, but the GA-010CE’s is dyed with red turnip. Soft, organic hues and distinctive textures are produced by this method.

Both versions combine a large-capacity battery with efficient power use to provide a 10-year battery life and are engineered for dependability. The timepieces are lightweight and strong thanks to the carbon core guard structure. In addition to having LED lights for readability in low light levels—on the dial for the GA-010CE and the LCD for the GD-010CE—they are water-resistant up to 20 ATM (200 meters).

In addition, the watches have a stopwatch, a timer, five alarms (including one with snooze), a fully automatic calendar, and global time for 48 cities. The operation sound can be turned on or off, and a needle retraction feature enhances LCD readability. Increased visibility is provided by the Neo Bright coating.
