Apple Introduces M5 Chip in 2025 MacBook Pro, iPad Pro, and Vision Pro
On Wednesday, Apple revealed new MacBook Pro, iPad Pro, and Vision Pro models that are faster than their predecessors because to an upgraded M5 chip.
The starting price of the new MacBook Pro versions is $1,599. The starting price of the 11-inch iPad Pro is $999. Starting at $3,499, the most recent model of the Apple Vision Pro comes with a Dual Knit Band.
Most regions are now accepting preorders for the new smartphones, which will go on sale on October 22. These are the newest items that Apple has added to its fall product lineup.
In September, the business unveiled the Apple Watch Series 11 and iPhone 17.
Sales during Apple’s December quarter are the highest ever, thanks to Christmas and holiday spending. For this reason, the business typically changes its best-selling items in the fall. Sales of the iPhone 17 are also in their first full quarter this year.
Apple says that the M5 chip, which powers the new device lineup, has four times the peak compute capability of the M4 chip.
“The M5 delivers a huge boost to AI workloads,” stated Johny Srouji, senior vice president of Hardware Technologies at Apple, in a press statement.
The news on Wednesday comes as Wall Street analysts are keeping a tight eye on Apple’s latest announcements to determine whether the company is reducing costs or raising prices in response to President Donald Trump’s threatened and announced tariffs, particularly on China and semiconductors.
The latest M5 models have the same starting costs as previous versions.
Although sales of iPads and MacBooks aren’t as important to Apple as those of iPhones, they are nonetheless very profitable.
Apple reported iPad sales of $6.58 billion for the June quarter, an 8% annual decline that the firm blamed to challenging comparisons with the same quarter last year, when the new iPad Pros were introduced.
The June quarter saw $8.05 billion in Mac sales, a 15% year-over-year rise. A new model of the MacBook Air, which Apple claims is its best-selling notebook, was unveiled earlier this year.
Although sales of the Vision Pro headset are included in the company’s wearables (or other products) line item, along with those of the Apple Watch and AirPods, Apple has never released specific sales data for the headset. The company’s Vision Pro revenue, according to analysts, is insignificant.
When combined, MacBook, iPad, and Vision Pro sales are much lower than Apple’s iPhone sales, which made up over 47% of the company’s June quarter sales, or just less than $45 billion.
Analysts on Wall Street typically pay more attention to iPhone growth and sales than to the company’s other product lines.
