Zootopia 2: Release Date, Cast, Story Additional Characters Revealed

Zootopia 2: The first Zootopia is a world-building masterpiece, with its title city being intricately detailed and each of its suburbs and locations having a unique personality. Considering how well it did at the box office, it was unexpected that a sequel wasn’t announced for seven years. The plot of Zootopia 2 will resume, transporting viewers back to Zootopia and Judy and Nick’s world. Large portions of Zootopia are still a fascinating mystery, though, and many elements are still unknown.

Zootopia 2: Story Details

Nick a former two-bit con artist, graduates from the police academy and joins Judy at the end of Zootopia, indicating that there may be more buddy-cop adventures in the future. After that, the two officers will collaborate to solve a fresh mystery in Zootopia 2. The sequel will include reptiles, though the details are yet unknown. It is also possible that the two officers will have to solve a conspiracy within the neighborhood.

Disney debuted Gary the Snake (Ke Huy Quan), a new character that Nick and Judy are pursuing, at D23 in 2024. Although it’s unclear why the two police officers are after him, based on his appearance, he might not be a seasoned criminal. Though many people hope their banter stays solely platonic, Zootopia 2 has a lot of other story beats to work with, particularly the connection between Judy and Nick. There will undoubtedly be more animal misadventures in the sequel.

Zootopia 2: Cast

Ginnifer Goodwin (Big Love) and Jason Bateman (Arrested Development) played Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde in the original Zootopia, and they will also be back for the second cast. At D23 in 2024, Disney discreetly announced that Mr. Big, Clawhauser, and Flash the Sloth will all return in the sequel, which featured a number of well-liked supporting characters. In addition, musician Shakira will be returning to the film as Gazelle, the Zootopia pop diva.

Gary the Snake, a wanted reptile who will be portrayed by Oscar winner Ke Huy Quan, is one newly confirmed character. Although not much is known about Gary, he is expected to be one of the primary characters in Zootopia 2 given his A-list voice actor. In the follow-up, comedian and actress Fortune Feimster plays Nibbles, a beaver who Judy and Nick encounter while conducting their inquiry.

Zootopia 2 will be released in United States theaters on November 26, 2025.
