Here’s how WhatsApp’s secret code chat lock works to further encrypt your conversations:

By using a secret code, users can add an extra degree of anonymity to their locked chats by creating a password that is distinct from the one they use to unlock their phones.

On Thursday, the Meta-owned messaging app WhatsApp unveiled a new feature that allows millions of users to protect private conversations on the network with a secret code. With this feature, users can further secure their closed chats by creating a unique password that is different from their device unlock code.

The CEO and co-founder of Meta, Mark Zuckerberg, announced the release of Chat Lock’s secret code on WhatsApp, allowing users to password-protect their private conversations. “Rolling out secret code to Chat Lock on WhatsApp so you can protect your chats with a unique password. Now you can set your locked chats to only appear when you type the secret code in the search bar, so no one can unintentionally discover your most private conversations,”.

Users have the option to hide the Locked Chats folder from their list of conversations, such that the only way to find them is to enter the secret code into the search field.

Users can opt to have the Locked Chats folder visible in their chat list for further customization options. Users no longer need to travel to the chat’s settings in order to lock a conversation—they can just long-press on it.

The goal of this improvement is to make it more difficult for users who share devices or have access to phones to access chats.

“We’re so happy our community has been loving Chat Lock, and hope that secret code makes it even more useful to them. Secret code starts rolling out today, and in the coming months will be available globally,” said the company in a statement.

SUMMARY:

  • Millions of WhatsApp users now have access to the secret code function.
  • It’s an extra measure to safeguard private conversations on its network.
