Google Introduces Chat Memory Feature in Gemini AI That Will Recall Previous Conversations

Google Gemini: Google’s Gemini AI chatbot has received a significant update that emphasizes making interactions more private, proactive, and intimate. The new features will provide customers more control over their data, better customization, and more intelligent chats.

Personalised Memory: No Need to Start a Conversation from the Beginning

Personal Context Mode on Google Gemini

Gemini learns on your past conversations and adjusts recommendations or answers depending on what you’ve previously shared when Personal Context is enabled, which is also the default setting. For example, if you questioned Gemini about your favorite comic book character or Japanese culture, it may now proactively base future recommendations on these interests.

Users still retain control: You can disable this memory or remove previous discussions using the Gemini Apps Activity menu by flipping switches in Settings – Personal Context – Your Past Chats with Gemini. With plans to expand to Gemini 2.5 Flash and additional locations in the upcoming weeks, the feature is now available in a few countries on the Gemini 2.5 Pro tier.

Brief Chats for One-Time Discussions

When you don’t want to record a conversation, Google is introducing Temporary Chats. They are not used to train Google’s AI models, they are not saved in your history, and they expire automatically after 72 hours. It’s a practical way to completely separate your core chat history from sensitive queries.

Data Use and Privacy Controls

Google is also making changes to its privacy settings to increase transparency in data usage: ‘Gemini Apps Activity’ will soon be replaced with ‘Keep Activity’. You can use a tiny portion of your uploads, like files or photographs, to improve services if you enable it. This can be disabled at any moment, or you can just utilize Temporary Chats and never save any information.

Users can now independently select whether screen, audio, or video data transmitted via Gemini Live or a microphone will enhance services. By default, this setting is off.
