Fuel Pump Problem has Resulted in the Recall of 31,000 Genesis Vehicles

Genesis is extending the scope of a September recall to cover over 31,400 G80 and G90 sedans as well as GV70 and GV80 SUVs. These cars could have a gasoline pump failure, which would cause a rapid loss of drive and increase the chance of an accident.

Vehicles from the 2022–2023 model years G80, G90, GV70, and GV80 are affected. The low-pressure fuel-pump assembly’s impellers might not meet certain material requirements, which could cause deformation under some conditions (such high temperatures) and result in the fuel pump shutting off. Drivers may experience engine stuttering, hesitation, and a rough idle if the shutdown limits fuel delivery to the engine, resulting in an abrupt drop in motive power.

Dealers will examine and replace the fuel pump assembly at no cost as a remedy. Owners of Genesis-owned vehicles will receive notification from parent company Hyundai on June 18. In the interim, owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 855-371-9460 (Hyundai’s recall number is 022G), the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle safety hotline at 888-327-4236, or visit the company’s website to verify your vehicle identification number and obtain more information.
