Taylor Sheridan Reportedly Leaving Paramount for Massive NBCUniversal Deal

According to Source, Taylor Sheridan, Paramount’s most successful television creator, has signed a long-term film and television contract with NBCUniversal.

After Sheridan’s overall TV deal with Paramount expires on January 1, 2029, the enormous five-year deal for film, TV, and streaming will start. (It lasts until 2028.) David Glasser, Sheridan’s close producer and colleague, and his 101 Studios are also relocating to NBCUniversal. Following his company’s present responsibilities to Paramount, Glasser has inked a first-look film and TV deal with the new studio, which will start in early 2026.

This shocking development highlights the dangers and severity of the new phase in the talent wars that began in August when Skydance acquired Paramount Global. One of the first significant actions taken by the merged company was to offer creators of Stranger Things Matt and Ross Duffer a similarly lucrative exclusive four-year film and TV agreement, luring them away from their longtime home, Netflix.

Sheridan’s departure, which Puck first reported, is also unexpected because the new Paramount management made it apparent on Day 1 that he was the company’s top creator and someone they wanted to retain for a long time. David Ellison, the CEO of Paramount Skydance, described Sheridan as “a singular genius with a perfect track record.”

The departure of Chris McCarthy, co-CEO of Paramount Global, who was intimately involved with the Taylor Sheridan business, was one of the senior executive changes that accompanied the Skydance-Paramount merger. With expenses running high and shows frequently shot at Sheridan’s ranches, the previous administration was known for granting Sheridan extensive budgetary latitude and production control. Sheridan opened a new studio facility in Texas earlier this year in collaboration with Glasser.

Sheridan’s shows have been tremendously popular despite being expensive. Beginning with Yellowstone, Sheridan has released a number of successful shows, and his lineup for Paramount+ is regularly ranked among the streamer’s best-performing shows.

In August, Cindy Holland, the Chair of Direct-to-Consumer at Paramount, stated, “The Taylor Sheridan universe is a really great foundation on Paramount+ today.”

In addition to the three coming Yellowstone spinoffs, Beth & Rip and The Madison for Paramount+ and Y: Marshals for CBS, Sheridan’s current Paramount programs include Mayor of Kingstown, Landman, Lioness, and Tulsa King.
