‘Superman’ Officially Gets HBO Max Release Date – Here’s When to Stream
James Gunn, the writer-director, revealed on his social media accounts that “Superman” will debut on HBO Max on September 19. Over the summer, the movie brought in $615 million worldwide, making it the highest-grossing comic book film of the year.
“Superman” was released by Warner Bros. on July 11 in theaters across the globe. The comic book tentpole made $125 million at the domestic box office on its first weekend and held the top spot for two weeks before being overtaken by Marvel’s “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” at the end of the month.
“Superman,” which was directed by James Gunn, is the first movie in Warner Bros.’ DC Universe reboot. DC Studios, led by Gunn and producer Peter Safran, will create series and films that are related and based on the brand’s iconic comic book characters. After the release of “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” in 2023, Warner Bros.’ DC Extended Universe, which featured films like “Man of Steel,” “Wonder Woman,” “Justice League,” “Black Adam,” and Gunn’s own “The Suicide Squad,” went dormant. This is the studio’s second attempt to create a shared DC Cinematic Universe.
David Corenswet plays the title character in “Superman,” which resets the universe. Other cast members include Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, and Edi Gathegi as Mr. Terrific. Wendell Pierce as Perry White, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Pruitt Taylor Vince as Pa Kent, Neva Howell as Ma Kent, Bradley Cooper as Jor-El, Alan Tudyk as Superman’s Robot #4 (later named Gary), and Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho are also part of the cast. Also making appearances are John Cena’s Peacemaker, the lone blatantly DC Extended Universe character, and Milly Alcock’s Supergirl.
“Superman” will be available on HBO Max with other DC shows including “The Penguin” and “Peacemaker.”
