440-Mile Range and CrabWalk Available in the 2024 GMC Sierra EV

After a 2022 preview, the 2024 Sierra EV electric pickup vehicle is finally expected in stores this summer. GMC released new specs for the truck on Tuesday.

Limited-edition 2024 Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 will be the first model to be released; nevertheless, some of the specs will be the same for later-released lower grades.

The comparable 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV shares many of the same characteristics as the GMC. It will go on sale to retail consumers this summer, similar to the GMC, and it will start out as a limited-edition range-topper called the Silverado EV First-Edition RST. Since last year, business customers can purchase a Silverado EV Work Truck.

Up to 754 horsepower can be obtained by the 2024 Sierra EV Denali Edition thanks to a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup. That output, which is only accessible when the vehicle is in its Max Power mode, is merely a transient statistic. The truck’s typical horsepower output has not been disclosed by GMC.

The estimated weights for the payload and towing capability have been increased to 1,450 pounds and 10,000 pounds, respectively. The payload has increased by 150 pounds, while the towing capability has increased by 500 pounds. The bed has a repositionable midgate that allows it to be as long as nearly 11 feet when combined with split-folding rear seats and a repositionable tailgate. The typical bed is 5 feet 11 inches long.

Additionally, the estimated maximum range—440 miles—is 40 miles greater than what was previously disclosed. No published EPA-rated values are available. GMC continues to withhold particular details regarding the battery, which is estimated to have a 205 kwh capacity. However, the carmaker has confirmed that DC rapid charging at up to 350 watts, or enough to add 100 miles of range in about 10 minutes, will be possible using an 800-volt electrical infrastructure.

The truck’s basic air suspension raises and lowers the vehicle by about two inches. Additionally, the truck has rear-wheel steering, which enables it to maneuver in a diagonal manner and enter a CrabWalk mode akin to that of GMC’s Hummer EV Pickup and SUV. Rear-wheel steering also helps the truck turn around more quickly, which improves mobility in confined spaces.

The Sierra EV’s interior design and dashboard set it apart from both its Chevy brother and the current GMC lineup. The Sierra EV divides screens on the dash rather than having a wall of them. It has an 11.0-inch digital gauge cluster and a 16.8-inch portrait-style touchscreen with a volume knob on top and seven hard toggles below. Included are high-end amenities like a glass roof, a head-up display, and the autonomous driver-assist Super Cruise system from General Motors.

The 2024 Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 has a starting price of $99,495 plus a destination charge of $1,995. That is a significant reduction from the $108,695 beginning price that was previously stated. Elevation and ATV, two more reasonably priced Sierra EV classes, should be available beginning with the 2025 model year.

GM’s Factory Zero facility, located close to Detroit, is the site of production for the Hummer EV and Silverado EV. 2025 will see an increase in production at GM’s Orion Assembly facility in Orion Township, Michigan.
